When Addie left to come pick me up in Indianapolis Indiana from my bike trip some raccoons discovered we were gone. They attacked our chickens and killed several of them. Since we got back home we have managed to prevent any more chicken murders however we can’t seem to catch the culprits. They seem to refuse to go inside the cage. Instead they drag it around and attempt to dump the cat food out of the can then shake the cage so food falls on the ground. Then they just move the cage out of the way and have their fancy feast. I’ve tried staking the cage down but perhaps not well enough. I’m certain I will catch them eventually though.
I did manage to catch two opossums though. We don’t have a problem with opossums so we let them go.
Seems to me you where going to buy a shotgun. That’s probably the best way to stop them. Even if you miss the noise will give them a heart attack. 🤣

Tie a piece of chicken meat on the inside of the cage. Make it so they cannot shake it loose. Since they have a taste for chicken, maybe they will brave an attempt at going inside for some.

you cant shoot what you cant see. the second you go out there they take off before they are seen. short of rigging a shot gun shell attached to a cat food can.
