This year’s cardboard sled races were a big hit giving our community something fun to do. Last year’s had to be canceled due to lack of snow. This is one of many events I and my friends throw throughout the year.

This event may only go on for a couple of hours one afternoon, but, it brings families and friends together for days if not weeks of fun designing and building their sleds…
One father wrote:
“My family had a blast!!!!
We put in hours of fun messy work into our sleds…..and they ran like crap! Oh well. We loved the event and the family time together building them.”

Participants build sleds out of two materials only, cardboard and duct tape. Some go for the very elaborate, others go for speed, and some just grab a sheet of cardboard and hope for the best.

There are 3 main races. 1. Kids singles 2. Adult singles 3. Teams. There is a 4th race for those whose sleds don’t pass inspection. We make sure everyone gets a shot at a title.

Here are pictures from this year’s cardboard sled races…

Special thanks to: Duane DuRay for getting the lot plowed. Cheyenne Wiliams for helping me setup the races. Addie’s parents for working registration. Gwinn Lions Club for providing insurance, port-a-jhons, and volunteers. Marcus Koponen for shuttling the racers to top of sled hill. And the local tribes for funding this event.

And the winners are…
