Every year for the last 6 years I have hiked this trail. I’ve gone in both directions from Munising to Grand Marias and reverse. Normally I go in August when the temperature is a bit warmer and very few bugs to bother you. This year I tried going in June instead. Never again. Way to many mosquitoes and flies in the spring. Also was still pretty cold at night. Bright side though the sun was out all week and we didn’t get any rain.

This year Addie got to come with me. She brought a tent and I brought my hammock setup. I was proud of her finally packing appropriately. She managed to keep it under 40lbs including food and not bring anything she didn’t need. Normally her packs are over 50lbs. She spent most he time getting pictures of birds. She is working on a blog to show her birding pictures soon. I didn’t take to many pictures this time. I have pretty much already photographed everything I’ve wanted to in my past trips. But I did get a few.

For dinner the first night I made a dehydrated broccoli cheddar soup. I added mixed vegetables and ground beef. After rehydrating it, I additionally added fresh diced onions, bell peppers, and jalapeno. Served it on a flour tortilla boat. Very yum.

We averaged about 7-8 miles per day. We took it slow so Addie could see everything and because of my Parkinsons Disease. It is getting harder and harder for me to walk on uneven surfaces.

Here are a few pictures from the next couple of days. We spent 6 days and 5 nights as we slowly made our way along the cliffs and beaches.

Our second night we setup camp and went rock hunting on the beach of Lake Superior.

I made my famous trail pizza for dinner. It came out perfectly. My new MSR cook set is working out great. Cooks way better and cleans so easily. A little bulkier than my normal mess kit but well worth. I will eventually make a blog post about it and show everything I use to make my famous camp meals.

I made cakes and some other meals this trip as well but didn’t get any pics of them.

The bugs were bad but we came prepared with anti bug shirts and head nets.

I met a turtle who was hiking the trail as well. He was cruising right along.

There were lots of animals we saw. A deer came into our campsite and let me get within around 5 feet of her. While the deer kept me distracted a raven swooped in and pecked holes into my food bag and slobbered on it. He tried to carry it off but it was too heavy for him and I caught him just in time. A fellow hiker said that raven tried the same thing with them one campsite over. I got a video of the deer.

We came across a snake as well.

Here are several pictures of Lake Superior and the cliffs.

And here are some sunset pics.

This bridge has been around awhile. I’ve crossed it many times. This time though it seemed a bit rickety.

And some random pictures.

So there we go. Look for Addie’s blog if you are a birder. She will be posting soon.

Thanks for stopping by 🙂
