I know I’m way behind on posting these, I’ve been keeping busy 🙂 so I’m trying to get a bit caught up. I’m not sure at this writing how far I’ll get but we will start with April 30.
Followed by May 1. May 1st’s weather wasn’t so bad until just about the time I got home and decided to rush to do the egg collection before the storm hit…however, instead I managed to basically synchronize the collection with the first major slam of the storm… it was pretty wet so I took some videos too…
Lacy laid in her typical spot up in the old barrel… chickens, don’t ask! They don’t really explain to ya if you do anyway. Here comes another video…it was reeealllly windy so I decided to get a quick video of the turbine but…
Both dogs really didn’t like the storm, and Kyle especially wasn’t happy. There was thunder coming our way and he doesn’t really understand it, so it gives him the heebee jeebees. He wanted me to let them out so he could … well, he doesn’t really have a good plan but running to the hills sounds attractive he thinks. Or, hey even better, GET THE KEYS MOM AND OPEN THE DOOR TO THE CAR AND WE WILL ALL DRIVE AWAY… yeppers, that’s his favorite idea. Neither of them wanted to wait in the house (I left the door open for them) but also didn’t like the wet either… poor guys wanted to follow me.
One last video from May 1. The rain running down the oak trunk was channeled along the ridges in the bark, and dripping when it reached a bend in the trunk.
I decided to keep going despite the wetness, and get the rest of the pictures. As you can see from some of the pictures, it was getting just dark enough to set off the flash on the camera, making it look like there are floating pearls instead of rain drops. I did manage to gather the eggs, but slipped pretty well on the way back to the house, and managed to splatter every egg on the ground. Oh well. And then of course it started pouring harder… so I just gathered the egg shells to trash so the chickens wouldn’t get the idea they like to eat egg shells, and let the rain wash away the slime. And then I got the bright idea that I should show you how wet I was… and try to get the self timer to work to get a shot of me smiling and giving a great big two thumbs up… but it went off early and so I just look like a dork. A really, really wet dork. But eh, I’m a dork and yep, I was wet so it’s an accurate picture!
And May 2, here comes May 2. I’m going to have to have Ryan write the cats a note when I visit him, because the moles are making a whole lot of mole hills in the yard.
May 3.
No, that is NOT a mosquito! It is a fly, and so are mosquitoes, but I’m pretty sure it’s some sort of crane fly… which DOESN’T bite!
Coming up is May 4. Pixie has decided she’s like to go broody, but I can’t let her right now. So I steal eggs from her at gathering time, and have started having to put her away at night when I close up the big coop. At least when she’s sleepy (I’m often sleepy too by then) she doesn’t make too much fuss about being picked up.
And May 5.
I think I’ll break this off here, so it’s easier to load than if I put all the belated Egg-A-Days all on this page. Stay tuned for May 6 and future Egg-A-Days coming soon!
