The last 4 years I have put on an Easter event for my community with help from the community. Starting in 2019 we had about 20 kids come for an egg hunt. Then our 2nd year in 2020 we had to postpone the event for a few months but we were able to have a late egg hunt in August. About 25 kids showed for that one. Some people don’t count it as our 2nd because it didn’t happen in spring. In 2021 we held our 3rd event (or 2nd depending how you want to count it) Easter weekend at the 906 Community Church and had a huge turn out. Over 450 people came and roughly 200+ were kids. This year we held our 4th Easter Eggstravaganza at the Sawyer Air Museum. It turned out to be our best yet. Just over 400+ people showed.

We had managed to collect enough donations to cover up to 400 participants. People from the community and local businesses and clubs helped to make this happen:

Sawyer Air Museum donated the facility

Sawyer Community Alliance helped with planning and advertising

Shannon’s Home cooking provided lunch goodies and activities like egg dying and cupcake decorating

Boots & Shoots photography did pictures with the Rabbit

Gwinn Lions Club provided approximately 3000 eggs and filler

UP Book Mobile provided free books all you can read

Cupcakes & Tutus / The Koponen family / Sandy Davis / Craig Wilson / SueAnn Hardiman / The Shifflette family / Samantha Belongie / Patricia Davies / and many more provided eggs, candy, toys, and raffle prizes.

The event started at 2pm. Upon entry everyone was given a raffle ticket. We used these to keep track of how many participants came and for the chance to win one of 30 prizes. The kids came in and selected their Easter Baskets and shuffled their way around the auditorium selecting various candy, toys, stuffed animals, and games. Then finished with dying their own egg and decorating their cupcakes. On the way out they had a choice of a free hot dog or sandwich and a drink.

At 3:15pm we started the three egg hunts. Indoor hunt for 4 year old and under. Outdoor hunts were 5-7 year old and 8 years old and up. We had well over 6,000 eggs.

We ended the event with the raffle drawings. Prizes ranged from 4 drones, 3 skate boards, 5 scooters, large stuffed animals, LOL toy kits, Neon drawing kits, and other cool toys.

Everyone appeared to be happy and enjoying the event. Many people stayed and helped my volunteers clean up the museum. I had several people tell me they can’t wait till next year. Well there was one complaint filed by the Easter Bunny… Apparently someone leaked the event to Mr. Fox who proceeded to chase the bunny all over until the kids stopped him.

I hold several events throughout the year here at K.I. Sawyer. There is surely something for everyone and it’s all free to participate:

February is Cardboard Sled Racing, March is Musical Snow Stomp, April is Easter, May is Nerf Wars, October is Haunted Trails, and December is Senior Santa. I take a few months off in summer to travel America and when home I collect old bikes and refurbish them then give away for free to whomever needs one.

Everyone is always welcome. These events are always nonpolitical, nonreligious and free. We do accept donations which go towards the event expenses. They are also 100% community based and volunteer based.
